My current body of work is a reflection of my attention to detail, my sense of color, my philosophy on life and my love of nature; specifically through landscape paintings of the oceans and trees of Southern Maine. Painting for me is about the process of creating; being in the moment, documenting the passage of time, paying attention to details and creating a world that shows the beauty that I see in front of me. The act of painting is meditative; this sense comes through in my choice of bright colors, forms and subject matter, which produce a quiet sense of happiness in the final piece. My paintings are studies in color, process, detail, atmosphere, time and spaces.
I work primarily with acrylic paints on wood, board or canvas, which allow me to add layers of color and create harmonious transparency. My subject matter is influenced by the landscapes that have surrounded me since childhood; the beach, trees, nature, air, wind and water.
I am a landscape artist living where I grew up along the beaches and forests of Southern Maine. Before the age of five my talents as an artists began to emerge. In 1st grade my love of art became apparent to my parents and school teachers, who worked together to organize after-school classes to expose me to art through both making and viewing. Drawing was my first love during these early years and it is through my early education that I learned to create with close attention to detail the art that I am known for. Throughout my schooling in Kennebunk I took classes at Heartwood School of Art in Kennebunkport, Maine. Upon graduation from high school I attended Rhode Island School of Design. My education there exposed me to the art world at large; a drastic change from the quiet familiar world of Southern Maine. It was there that I learned to experiment with looser drawings, which has allowed for more free-flowing forms in my art. After a year at RISD I transfered back to Southern Maine and completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Heartwood College of Art where I honed my skills and shifted my focus from drawing to painting the familiar world of Southern Maine. Throughout my career as an artist I have used my talents to help create positive change through the sale and auction of my work. During college I painted and sold turtles on local beach rocks to raise money for a trip to Costa Rica where I participated in conservation work for endangered sea turtles. I have also participated and Donated my time and art to Go Malawi! An art auction to raise tuition money for school children in Malawi, Big Brothers and Sisters, Maine Adaptive Sports, Hilton Winn Farm, among many others. I am an active alumna and supporter of Heartwood College of Art where I often donate art to the schools annual art auctions. Being able to use my art as a way to give back to my community and the many people who have influenced my life is one of the most rewarding practices that I hope to continue for as long as possible. In addition to my painting I am constantly dabbling in other forms of art, including graphic design, photography, jewelry making and pottery. I have recently moved to the great city of Portland, Maine where I am looking forward to further developing my skills in landscape studies, working in my studio, and networking with new people and artists in neighboring towns.
